"This is the defining issue of our time — and I won’t back down."
Climate change is not a distant threat. It’s here. It’s real. And it’s affecting our health, our homes, our cost of living, and our economy. We need bold, science-based action — not more spin and delay.
I’ll fight for real, practical climate solutions that also ease cost-of-living pressures and create long-term jobs.
The climate crisis and its effects on our natural world demand urgent and thoughtful action. As a retired medical doctor, I understand the importance of evidence-based decision-making and the profound impacts environmental factors have on human health and well-being.
My Climate Action Plan
Green energy and emissions reduction
- Oppose all new coal and gas projects. Approving new coal and gas projects is incompatible with protecting people and nature from climate devastation. I firmly oppose any new coal or gas developments and will advocate for policies that phase out existing fossil fuel operations in line with science-based targets. Building renewable energy alone is not enough—we must also stop expanding polluting industries if we are serious about tackling climate change.
- Stop handouts to fossil fuel companies. The idea that $18,588 of public money is handed over every minute to the fossil fuel industry is unacceptable. These subsidies prop up industries that harm our environment and delay the transition to clean energy. I am committed to ending these taxpayer-funded handouts and redirecting those funds toward renewable energy projects, climate adaptation measures, and community resilience initiatives.
- Strengthen environmental protection laws and implement the Samuel Review.
- Strengthen Australia’s emission reduction target and ensure mechanisms for achieving it are sound. I endorse the Climate Council's recommendation of a 75% emissions reduction target by 2030 and I endorse their "10 Practical Policies".
- Back renewables and storage solutions — not risky and expensive nuclear distractions.
- Work to transition from fossil fuel export to the export of knowledge and skills in the renewable energy economy and work to transition from exporting raw materials to exporting products that have been manufactured in Australia using green technology and power. I believe Australia has the potential to lead the world in renewable energy innovation, manufacturing, and exports. By investing in solar, wind, battery storage, and green hydrogen technologies, we can create thousands of jobs, strengthen our economy, and reduce emissions globally. Transitioning to renewables is not just an environmental imperative but also a tremendous economic opportunity for our nation, which will ensure that communities currently reliant on fossil fuel industries can transition to new economic opportunities.
Cleaner, Cheaper Transport
- Invest strongly in public transport infrastructure and walking and cycling routes.
- Offer discounts and incentives to make electric vehicles affordable.
- Expand the EV charging network across Sturt.
- Support families to charge EVs using rooftop solar and batteries.
- Transition government fleets to electric vehicles to grow the second-hand EV market.
Affordable Clean Energy at Home
I'm committed to supporting policies that assist communities in transitioning to cleaner energy solutions.
- Make rooftop solar and batteries accessible to renters and homeowners alike.
- Support community-owned solar gardens and batteries.
- Electrify homes and expand household energy efficiency programs.
Preparing for Climate Risk
- Invest in bushfire protection and community resilience planning.
- Upgrade infrastructure to cope with extreme weather and future-proof our suburbs.
- More resilient energy infrastructure with localised solar production and storage to safeguard against heat stress during increasing heat waves.
- Work to fast track the greening of Sturt in line with the recently launched Urban Greening Strategy for Metropolitan Adelaide to reduce the heat impacts of climate change.
