Cost of Living Relief

"I’ve listened to your stories. It’s time for real solutions, not short-term band-aids.”

Groceries, rent, power bills, insurance — the cost of everything is rising for everyone. I’ve spoken with young people, families, and older Australians who are struggling to make ends meet. I’m ready to fight for real relief that lasts.

My plan for real, practical relief:

Housing Affordability

Addressing housing affordability requires thoughtful, evidence-based solutions that balance the needs of tenants, homeowners, and future generations.

  • Boost social housing to 10% of total housing stock by 2050
  • Strengthen renters’ rights: Nationally consistent protections, such as limiting rent increases and ensuring minimum living standards.
  • Review income support payments: Ensure JobSeeker and other payments are adequate to meet the rising cost of living.
  • Build more quality homes of various types — including townhouses and apartments — and speed up completion.
  • Ensure that housing supply and the required infrastructure to support it keeps pace with population growth.
  • Prioritise first home buyers through smart tax and policy levers.
  • Stop developer land banking that limits housing and drives up prices.
  • Reform the tax system by introducing staged reductions in tax incentives for property investors which currently encourage multiple property ownership by very wealthy Australians.

Lower Power Bills

  • Ensure all households — including renters — can access affordable rooftop solar and batteries, via innovative funding models, community solar garden investment and community owned batteries.
  • Keep South Australia on track for 100% net renewables by 2027 — no costly nuclear mirages.
  • Expand energy efficiency initiatives in homes to reduce power bills.
  • Introduce energy efficiency ratings with minimum standards for rentals, so renters know what they are getting themselves into.
  • Quickly and fully phase out gas from our homes for economic, climate and health reasons in line with expert advice, securing enough Australian gas to meet Australian domestic needs in the process.

A Fairer Economy

  • Crack down on profiteering by supermarkets, banks, insurers and airlines.
  • Make sure multinational corporations pay their fair share of tax.
  • Challenge the ‘for-profit’ childcare model to make early childhood education more affordable and accessible.
