Independent candidate for Sturt, Dr Verity Cooper cautions voters about postal voting data harvesting as early voting opens today.
The practice sees major political parties asking for personal details under the guise of applying for a postal vote before directing them to the Australian Electoral Commission’s website.
Dr Cooper said the practice is an example of why the integrity of major political parties should be brought into the spotlight.
“For too long, the major political parties have been treating voters poorly by tricking them in this way, despite concerns from many voters about the ethics of this practice,” she said.
“I’m determined to put a stop to this, and as an Independent candidate, I’m determined to make a difference in the way politics is done in Canberra.”
“As an elected Independent in Canberra, I will consider every bill on its merits, regardless of whether it comes from Labor, Liberal, Greens or other crossbenchers.”
“What’s important to me is what’s most important to Sturt, like cost of living relief, housing affordability, improved healthcare, climate and environment protection, and making sure the Greater Adelaide Frieght Bypass stops making headlines and starts becomes a reality.”
“I have a clear vision to help rebuild trust and integrity in politics. I will push for a ban on all misleading statements in political advertising and I’ll work to strengthen the National Anti-Corruption Commission so that it’s effective.”
“I’ll seek to overturn the new political funding laws that favour the major parties and make it harder for independents to compete.”
“I will vote for Sturt’s interests every time, ensuring future generations are considered and supported right now with transparency, honesty and accountability.”
